Best Practices in the treatment of mental health are guidelines developed by experts in the field informed by the latest research evidence. As such, they are dynamic guidelines being updated on a regular basis.
As it relates to PTSD, current best practice guidelines tend to agree that PTSD is best treated with Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT). There are three types of TF-CBT considered to be best practice. Specifically, they are:
1) Prolonged Exposure Therapy
2) Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
3) Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy with the addition of In-vivo exposures
